Script

Film begins with a quote on black. “Freedom a man may have, he shall not have peace”

Next, introductory shot of industrial buildings/his house – pan/wide shot which captures whole area.

Voice over starts Brad: I never really believed in Heroes and villains. It always seemed too fallible, too set in stone. Life is never that black and white.

Camera starts to zoom in. Next we have a mid shot of out anti-hero protagonist with alcohol bottles. Shot glasses, beer glasses and empty bottles surround him – from what we see he is living in grunge. He is on the phone with the femme fatal.

BRAD ON PHONE: So, give me the good news. Is everything organized? Cuts to femme fatal when answering. She is walking in a stingy alleyway, her black stiletto heels echoing of the pavement. A smoky residue is shifting around her feet. This shot introduces the femme fatal to the audience. It sets her character as sophisticated, sexy and powerful. Scene shot outside the bunker during the mid afternoon/twilight.

JEN:  (sighs) “I told you, it’s all going to plan. Try not to worry ” Cuts back to Brad who stands up, his chair scraping along the uncarpeted floor. Mid shot which is pulling out a bit so the audience can see his surroundings better.

BRAD: (with extremely serious face) “The bastard won’t know what hit him. Don’t be late.”   Phone call ends and we see Brad snap his phone closed, cuts back to Jen who snaps closed her phone too and pushes the door open to the bar. Mid shot of Devin leaning back looking sleazy. Maybe have him checking out some other girls in the bar etc. He is dressed casual but very smart – like a rich college kid.

He takes a drink and in the background we see Jen make a beeline for the counter. Music is loud but not dance-y. Possibly use smoke machine indoors and have some subtle lighting effects to make shadows on Jen and Devin’s faces and bodies.

Jen takes the seat next to him and Devin straightens up a bit – offers her a ‘I like what I see’ type look.

JEN: (to barman) I’ll take a Martini. (pulls out cigarette) Devin looks up at her and stares.

JEN: (to Devin) Got a light? Devin reaches into his pocket and retrieves a lighter, proceeds to hold the flame up the her cigarette & fake light it.

DEVIN: So, ah… I haven’t seen you around here before

JEN: (Pauses and gives him a sexy half-smile) I’m only in town for tonight.

DEVIN: Business or pleasure? JEN: Business…but I’m open to suggestions.

Devin: (standing up)” I may just have something in mind” Jen stands up too, gives Devin an impish smile and walks of.

Turning back over her shoulder she calls out; Jen: I’ve got a place just around the corner. (Smiles)  We seen then exit the room through the door before the shot cuts to a establishing shot of Brad’s place – similar to the shot seen at the beginning of film but night has fallen. Goes to inside shot of Jen tying Devin up. Devin plays along thinking it’s a game etc Then Jen gets up and is about to leave the room

Devin: Hey! (playfully) Where are you going? (Jen keeps going) Wait, What answer me! Where are you going? Jen looks over her should at the bound Devin and says

Jen: Just Relax!. She closes the door behind her and Devin’s muffled yells can be heard. She begins to talk down a hallway, and Brad walks up the hallway.

When the meet Brad hands her an envelope of money which she quickly scans through and checks, seeing that it is all on order she gives him a nod and walks of. Brad enters the room. Brad enters the room looking sadistically content and at the sigh of Devin bound.

Devin: (doesn’t know whats going on): Who are you? What are you doing here? Where’s SHE gone? (Maybe does a small half nod, as if going ‘this guys is pathetic’) Brad: Maybe this will jog your memory. Reaches into jacket and snaps off necklace ring. Shot shows arm holding ring and Devin’s face with look of realisation.

Fades into Montage. starts off with a young Devin and a young Mel walking along a path surrounded by trees. lasts 3 seconds. Next shot shows older Mel and Devin walking along same path obviously some years later. Both holding hands. Next shot Devin and mel are arguing. lots of hand movements.

Mel goes to slap Devin, he catches her hand and punches her in the face. Brad finds Mel sitting on the floor crying. He bends over and comforts her by holding her shoulders. Mel smiles at him and stands up. Wide shot of Brad and Mel standing facing each other. Zoom in and Brad kneels down and gives Mel an engagement ring. Zoom in on the ring. Cut to Devin shot of his face and then behind him facing Brad and Mel celebrating down on the beach. his face is angry.

Next shot on a road. Brad and Mel arguing with Devin who has confronted them. Devin violently pulls Mel away. He pulls her out of the shot and Brad stays in the shot holding his head. Next shot Brad walking along on the phone, hangs up in frustration as was obviously calling Mel. Something catches his eye and he runs out of the shot. Behind a corner Mel’s lifeless arm stretches out from behind corner. Brad puts arms to head. Next shot is Brad kneeling next o her arm holding the ring he gave her. Next he gets up looking all determined and walks out of the shot. Music plays throughout montage as no dialogue.

Fades out of montage and Brad flicks ring in the air and takes steps towards Devin. Camera focuses on Ring rocking side to side on floor and door slams behind it. Screen goes Black and you hear a gunshot. Brad reads out poetry over credits.
